The Florida Fall Home Reset: Making Home Feel Good Again

There is something about September that makes me look around the house and suddenly see everything. The project I meant to finish. The pile that somehow became a permanent resident. The cabinet that needs organizing. The room that's almost how I want it. And, of course, the project I'm currently considering starting even though several others would probably appreciate being finished first. Welcome to my fall home reset. Except this isn't going to be one of those beautiful weekend transformations where the entire house is suddenly spotless, decorated for fall and smelling like cinnamon. We actually live here. Our house is a work in progress, and this September I'm much more interested in making it feel good again than making it look finished. A Reset Doesn't Have to Mean a Makeover I think this is where I've gotten stuck before. When there are bigger projects you eventually want to tackle, the smaller things can start to feel pointless. Why worry about this whe...

Clean Without Compromise

Meet the Cleaners That Make Caring for Your Home a Little Simpler There is a particular kind of satisfaction that comes from a clean house. Not necessarily a perfect house. Not the kind where nobody is allowed to put a glass on the coffee table or leave their shoes beside the door. I mean a house that has been lived in. Dinner was cooked. Someone tracked dirt through the kitchen. There are fingerprints on the refrigerator, toothpaste in the bathroom sink, a mysterious spot on the rug and—somehow—another load of laundry waiting. That's life. And cleaning isn't about pretending those beautiful messes don't happen. It's about caring for the place where they happen. The problem is that cleaning can get unnecessarily complicated. Stand in front of a cabinet filled with bottles and suddenly you're wondering: Which one do I use on this? So rather than giving you another impossible cleaning routine, let's get acquainted with the EcoSense cleaning cabinet and ...

Letter from the Editor: Harvest & Home

Image
September has always felt a little funny to me. The calendar says fall. The stores say fall. Social media is suddenly full of sweaters, changing leaves, steaming bowls of soup and pumpkins on every available surface. Meanwhile, here in Florida, it is still hot. Very hot. The trees are green. The sun is bright. We aren't exactly rushing to light the fireplace. And I think I'm finally okay with that. This September, instead of trying to force my life to look like somebody else's version of fall, I want to pay attention to the season that's actually happening around me. That's where Harvest & Home came from. Harvest doesn't only have to mean baskets overflowing from a perfect garden. Sometimes it's looking around at what you've been working on and deciding what's worth carrying forward. What's working? What have I learned? What needs a little more attention? What am I ready to let go of? And home, for me, is very much a work in p...

August Reset: Why This Feels Like a Second New Year

Image
Back-to-school has always felt like the beginning of a new chapter—far more than January 1st ever has. Maybe it's because so much of my life has been measured by the school calendar. As kids, we counted our years by grades instead of birthdays. Then came college semesters, where every August brought a fresh schedule, new classes, and another opportunity to grow. For a while after I graduated, I lost that rhythm. Summer no longer meant a break. Vacations happened whenever I could squeeze them in, not because the season invited me to slow down. One season quietly bled into the next, and before I knew it, another year had passed. Now that Alfonso is a teacher, Summer has found its way back into our lives in the best possible way. It has become our reset. Here in Florida, August is the unofficial beginning of autumn—even if the thermometer strongly disagrees. It's finally raining enough that an afternoon shower might leave you reaching for a sweater or blanket. Not because it's...

The Campground We Look Forward to Almost as Much as the Vacation

Image
There are places you stay because they're convenient. And then there are places you actually get excited to return to. For us, that's Point South KOA . Honestly, if our road trip is taking us anywhere along I-95, we're already talking about the coffee before we even leave the driveway. Not because it's the closest campground. Not because it's the biggest. Not because it has the fanciest amenities. Because it somehow feels like coming home. Over the years we've stayed at a lot of KOAs. We've found plenty that are nice, a few that were just okay, and some we'll probably never visit again. But Point South ? We actually plan our travel days around staying here. That's about the highest compliment we can give a campground. It Doesn't Feel Like an Interstate Campground You know how most overnight campgrounds feel... Check in. Set up. Sleep. Leave. Point South KOA isn't like that. The minute you walk into the main building you ...

Tubing Through the Smokies

Image
Why Floating Down the River Became Our Favorite Day in Tennessee Some adventures require planning. Others require courage. And some simply ask you to sit back, let the current take over, and enjoy the ride. Our tubing day in Townsend, Tennessee, ended up being all of those things—and by the time we climbed out of the river, every one of us agreed it had become one of our favorite memories from the entire trip. If you're considering adding river tubing to your Smoky Mountains vacation, here's everything we learned before, during, and after our day on the water. Why We Chose Townsend When most people think of the Smoky Mountains, they picture busy streets in Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg. Townsend felt completely different. Known as the "Peaceful Side of the Smokies," it offered a slower pace, beautiful scenery, and a river that seemed made for lazy summer afternoons. It was exactly the kind of experience we wanted. A chance to unplug. Laugh. Cool off. And simply enjoy bei...

Hiking Rainbow Falls

Image
Everything We Wish We'd Known Before Hiking One of the Smokies' Most Beautiful Waterfalls When we started planning our Tennessee graduation trip, there was one adventure that made every single itinerary. Rainbow Falls. The photos were breathtaking. The reviews promised one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Smoky Mountains. And after seeing it for ourselves… I can honestly say it was worth every step. But if you're planning to hike Rainbow Falls, there are a few things I wish someone had told us before we laced up our boots. This isn't just a trail guide. It's our real experience—the good, the challenging, the funny, and everything in between. What to Know Before You Go Rainbow Falls is one of the most popular hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and it's easy to understand why. The trail follows a beautiful mountain stream, crossing bridges, weaving through old-growth forest, and gradually climbing until it reaches the tallest single-drop wate...
