Hello, Summer: Choosing a Season Worth Remembering

Hello, Summer: Choosing a Season Worth Remembering

Today marks the meteorological first day of summer.

While the official calendar may say summer doesn't arrive for a few more weeks, June 1st has always felt like the true beginning of the season to me. School is out, vacations are being planned, gardens are growing, and the world somehow feels a little lighter.

As I've gotten older, I've realized summer isn't really about the big moments.

It's about the little ones.

The morning coffee enjoyed before everyone else wakes up.

Fresh flowers on the kitchen table.

The smell of sunscreen.

A favorite book tucked into a beach bag.

Ice cream on a Tuesday simply because it's hot outside.

The sound of laughter drifting through an open window.

For so many years, I thought life would feel different once I reached certain milestones. Once the house was finished. Once the business was successful. Once I lost the weight. Once I had more money. Once I had more time.

But the truth is, life is happening right now.

Not someday.

Not when everything is perfect.

Right here, in the middle of ordinary moments.

This summer, I'm challenging myself to slow down enough to notice them.

To spend more evenings outside.

To read more books.

To take more photos.

To say yes to spontaneous adventures.

To make simple meals from seasonal ingredients.

To invite friends over, even if the house isn't perfect.

To put down my phone more often and pay attention to the people sitting across from me.

To create memories instead of waiting for them to happen.

Summer has a way of reminding us that joy doesn't have to be complicated.

Sometimes it looks like a porch swing and sweet tea.

Sometimes it looks like sandy feet and messy hair.

Sometimes it looks like sitting quietly with your favorite mug and a few uninterrupted minutes to think.

Maybe that's what I'm looking forward to most this season—not doing more, but appreciating more.

The older I get, the more I realize that a beautiful life isn't built from grand events.

It's built from thousands of ordinary moments that we choose to notice.

So here's to summer.

To sunshine and slow mornings.

To road trips and staycations.

To farmers markets and fresh flowers.

To backyard dinners and front porch conversations.

To reading one more chapter.

To taking one more picture.

To making one more memory.

And most importantly, to living fully in the season we're in.

What are you looking forward to most this summer?
